(Rules of The Gauntlet: The artist (Like in this case the Electronic Rock / Industrial Band Beauty In The Suffering) is sent a butt ton of questions ranging from standard to stupid from which they must choose at least 12 to answer and return them to us with a minimum of tear stains.)
Tell me about your new album. The writing, vibe, production/producers, etc.
Thanks! “The Crazies” EP is basically our collected digital singles from the past couple of years and a new cover song from our new mix sessions in Cleveland, OH. My name is DieTrich Thrall and I produce, write, program, perform, and vocalize everything on all the tracks. The only thing I don’t play are live drums but I usually program those before bringing in some of my talented friends to cover. By happy accident we ended up filming several zombie-themed music videos to go with the songs – the latest of which, “Reveille.” has just been released. As far as producers I am the producer as I don’t need help in writing or finishing my songs.
What are you working on right now?
I’m working on din din at the moment. A nice Chef Salad ftw
Why do you make your style of music? Why not polka? or Japanese symphonic folk metal? or..?
I write the kind of music I want to listen to. It’s as simple as that really. I’m not entirely sure what genre the body of my work fits in. I am totally open to feedback.
Top 2 stupidest things you’ve ever done.
Where do I start?
How often do you work on your music?
What is your philosophy? Motto?
“There is beauty in suffering” or “The beauty we glean from the suffering we have endured can never be denied..”
Who are your influences?
More than any one person – everything in general – Life.
What was the last song you listened to before this interview?
Iron Maiden “Stranger In A Strange Land”
What’s the most embarrassing band you listen to?
I’m not embarrassed by the music I listen to. Guilty pleasure music? 80’s hair metal.
Why should people experience your music?
We all have suffered – and we have managed to survive – it’s what’s made all of us who and what we are. Our music and lyrics explore our acceptance of that journey. Join us.
If you were facing unbeatable and fatal odds what song would you want to check out to? Why?
A Beauty In The Suffering song called “The Night I Died” which I am hoping will make it on the 3rd EP. You’ll know why once you hear the song.
Stella or Guinness? Why?
What musicians should quit forever and never be seen or heard from again?
I don’t think anyone should ever be told to stop doing the things that they love to do.
What would you like to say to your fans?
There’s a good chance you will look back and be embarrassed by your current hairstyle. Discuss.
Top five favorite albums?
Prince: Sign O’The Times
Iron Maiden: Powerslave or Piece Of Mind
Nine Inch Nails: Broken
Ratt: Invasion Of Your Privacy or Dancing Undercover
Flash Cadillac & The Continental Kids: Rock N’ Roll Forever
Would you accept 1 million dollars now to give up any and all music forever? If not what is your price?
I don’t think so. Here – take my wings – said noone ever.
What really pisses you off?
I’m not sure if “pissing me off” is the right way of putting it but the drive by criticism of movies, music, scripts or of art in general by people who have never been a part of any creative process is something that has definitely gotten out of hand with the internet. You will never please everyone and I don’t think that was ever the point to begin with.
If you won a chance to kiss Miley Cyrus or Justin Bieber how would you escape to the space station?
Oh I think we could work something out.
