(Rules of The Gauntlet: The artist (Like in this case the badass Downfall 2012.) is sent 75 questions from which they must choose at least 12 to answer in whatever medium they choose: written, audio,or video. The questions range from standard to ridiculous.)
Downfall 2012 (Danny Gil, Boo Rogers, Casey Bowen) are a ridiculously talented 3 piece band out of Houston, Texas with a sound so big I keep looking for the other members and a stage show that is so energetic they kick gravity in the nuts when performing. You definitely want to check out their tunes!
Here is Downfall 2012 vs Groovey.TV’s The Gauntlet Interview Series.
Tell me why your band rules. Or why it sucks.
We are a three piece band. We all sing lead while playing. Our records have comic books to tell the story of the music. We beat on trash cans and buckets on stage. We have a didgeridoo section of our live show. We independently tour, release music, make awesome music videos, play huge venues, and backyards…so…you decide! Downfall 2012 Rules? Or Sucks??
What are you working on right now?
We are finishing up the final editing to a new music video for our song “Face to face” and we are recording the last bits of “Everyman For Himself: Issue 3” The conclusion to a trilogy of music we have been playing and releasing over the last two years.
Why do you play your style of music? Why not polka? or classical? or..?
We all have very different musical tastes and backgrounds. When we come together creatively, what comes out is what you hear when you play one of our songs. Though it is classified as “Active Rock” or “Metal” we just classify it as Downfall 2012. This style has been formulated over several years and will continue to evolve as we do in our personal and musical lives.
Top 2 stupidest things you’ve ever done.
Number 1: We let Boo drink 7 shots in a row in the middle of our second song on our first date out on the road of a 3 month tour.
How often do you guys practice and why?
On average 3-4 times a week if not on the road. It is the only way for us to stay limber and smash our shows on the weekends!
What’s the bands philosophy? Motto?
“One or a thousand” and we try our best to always perform with that mentality. If you came to the Downfall 2012 show, we want to make it worth your time EVERY TIME.
What exactly is “Going apeshit?”
Watch Boo on stage at any given time.
Who are your influences?
Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pantera, Nine Inch Nails, Tech N9ne, Guns N’ Roses, Tool, Aesop Rock, Bob Marley, Marilyn Manson, Rage Against The Machine, Michael Jackson, Eminem, Johnny Cash, Metallica, and it goes on and on and on…
Well…we’ve been playing together BROKE for the last 7 years, and we’re still here! Let us get back to you on that!
Do you have a CD coming out? What’s the scoop on that? Where did you record, style, songs etc?
We will be releasing “Everyman For Himself: Issue 3” sometime in early 2014. It is the grand finale to the story. It will be the same feel as the other two parts and will contain a comic book as the others also did. We recorded it at Jim Finley Productions (Houston, TX & Los Angeles, CA), and Sound Arts Recording (Houston, TX).
What was the last song you listened to before this interview?
Eminem “Bad Guy” (amazing song btw)
Any tours planned?
Stella or Guinness? Why?
What would you like to say to your fans?
Thank you all for the continued support! 2014 is going to be a big year for Downfall 2012! It is great to have you all on board!
If you could accomplish one thing in a music career what would it be? When you achieve that will you quit?
We would love to tour overseas! And no, we would not quit after…we would probably go do it again and again and again!
What master musicians would you like to study with?
I would love to just get a glimpse of how Trent Reznor’s mind works, though I doubt I would even remotely be able to keep up! -Danny
Who in the band gets the most chicks?
Boo… haha…but really…hahaha
Worst thing ever eaten on the road?
Ravioli, room temp, straight out the can……for 3 weeks…(this was due to being broke and maintaining laziness all at the same time)
What are some of the unwritten rules of touring?
Haha! Nice try…wink wink
If you had a time machine what would you do with it?
Go into the future and get a sports almanac, come back and, well…
What are your detailed thoughts on yodeling?
If Justin Bieber asked to join your band how would you react?
Funny you ask, we actually are trying to get him to cover for Casey for some of our upcoming shows. Still waiting to hear back from him! J
