Texas’ Driver Friendly releases their EP Peaks + Valleys on Hopeless Records today, June 4, 2013. Their sound is melodic, high energy with a pop/punk feel. Peaks + Valleys has a fun fill to it. Good beats, fun lyrics and a wide variety of sound coming from the seven piece band. The layering of vocals amongst guitar and bass, with trombone and trumpet making their splash, keep the songs steady and lively.
Driver Friendly was included in Alternative Press Magazine’s “100 Bands You Need To Know for 2013”! I can see why. They are fun and upbeat and portray the sound and feel of many of the bands on Hopeless Records. I could listen to the album in its entirety and not get bored. I could even have it playing in the background with friends and it would suit the group, not too heavy, not to slow, not too sappy or crappy.
Overall, I would say I would give this EP 6 out of 10. It’s good, but I would not make a run to the store or to iTunes to buy it. I would listen for free on Spotify or Pandora if I was in the mood for some melodic pop/punk.
When Driver Friendly first met in high school in North Houston, Texas their friendship quickly turned from hanging out after school to writing songs in a garage and playing shows around their hometown. As the band gained momentum and a loyal fan base around the area, they took a huge step and moved to Austin, TX- the live music capital of the world- to continue pursuing their dream.Composed of lead vocalist Tyler Welsh, guitarist and vocalist Andy Lane, guitarist Nathan Parrish, bass guitarist Chris Walker, drummer Jeremi Mattern, trumpet player Juan Lopez & trombone player Andy Rector, Driver Friendly is ready to share their melodic, high energy songs with the world! The band’s fast paced anthems “Ghosts” and “Mesidonna” are just a small taste of what’s to come.Driver Friendly is a band with determination & huge dreams that plan on making music for a long time- growing not only as friends, but as musicians.Their journey is just beginning and it already looks like it’s going to be an amazing trip.
