(Rules of The Gauntlet: The artists (In this case Portland, ME Southern Rock Band Fifth Freedom) is sent a butt ton of questions ranging from standard to stupid from which they must choose at least 12 to answer and return them to us with a minimum of tear stains).
Tell me why your music rules. Or why it sucks.
Our music rules because it’s honest, intense and speaks to a lot of people. Not a whole lot of bands are out there doing true blue American Rock and Roll!!!
Which Muppet would you marry, which one would you wanna knife fight in a swamp, and which one should be our global emperor? Why?
I don’t think I’d want to marry any of the Muppets however I would definitely knife fight Beeker in a swamp because he’s a scrappy little f**k and Animal for global emperor because he’s the MAN.
Tell me about your new album. The writing, vibe, production/producers, etc.
Heartbreak and Hellfire was written in a surprisingly short period of time. From the time we started writing to the release was under a year. The vibe is certainly meant to have almost a storyline and feel. Almost a concept album if you will. Our producer Jon Wyman did such a good job with really letting us be ourselves while getting the best out of us. The whole process was a Blast!
What are you working on right now?
Right now, really trying to grow our fan base in our area and starting to write for the next album.
Why do you make your style of music? Why not polka? or Japanese symphonic folk metal? or..? Man, why not polka infused Japanese symphonic folks metal.
You may have just found our new direction *laughs*. We just play what comes naturally and what we love.
Which voice in your head is the craziest?
They’re all pretty out there.
How often do you work on your music?
Whenever we are feeling inspired. It could be a couple months before an idea comes or sometimes the ideas just fall out of our pockets in minutes.

Never give up.
Do you have names for your instruments? If so what are they?
I’ve named all my guitars. I think Ian has too…Harmony, Melody, Vera, Constance, all gibsons, all lovely ladies!
Who are your influences?
The group as a whole has a lot of influences, I am certainly into Lynyrd Skynyrd The Black Crowes, Guns n Roses, Gary (drums) loves Motley Crue and Metallica, Seth (bass) is a huge Tool and Rush Fan, Ian (Guitar) loves all of the above and brings some modern influences like Shinedown to the table.
Peace or freedom? (You can’t have both.)Why?
Freedom, what’s the point of peace if people aren’t free?
What legendary musicians would you like to play badminton with?
I hear Iron Madien plays a lot of badminton so probably them.
What was the last song you listened to before this interview?

Why should people experience your music?
If you dig rock, real rock with heart and soul, come to a show or get our record! It’s all about the music for us and that’s pretty clear with this album.
If you were facing unbeatable and fatal odds what song would you want to check
out to? Why?
Either Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Simple Man, or Black Stone Cherry’s Remember Me. Both extremely powerful tunes.
What would you like to say to your fans? you are the best! Thanks for never giving up on us, and we will never give up on you!
Where do your song names come from? either a line from the song or whatever captures the vibe of it.
If you could accomplish one thing in a music career what would it be? When you
achieve that will you quit?
I’d just like to be able to make a living at this, touring, albums, etc – and hell no if that happens that’s where you dump gas on the fire! Not quit! I don’t think we’d ever quit anyways – win or lose.
