(Rules of The Gauntlet: The artists (In this case Belgian Synth–Dark Belgian Disco to be exact–Band Frozen Nation) is sent a butt ton of questions ranging from standard to stupid from which they must choose at least 12 to answer and return them to us with a minimum of tear stains).
The members of Frozen Nation are D&D, Moss, and Elvis. They met at Spector Studio in Brussels during a very harsh winter. Sharing a common passion for new-wave and post-punk bands they started to make songs together and soon released their first track, “I Failed For You“.
Tell me why your music rules. Or why it sucks.
D&D : It rules because it’s disco and it sucks because the voice is dark.
Moss : It rules because the voice is dark and it sucks because it’s disco.
Why do you make your style of music? Why not polka? or Japanese symphonic folk metal? or..?
We were bored by years of Japanese symphonic folk metal and polka so we created Dark Belgian Disco.
What’s the history of your band as told by your favorite fictional character?
Rambo : “I was in the jungle, these guys were made prisoners by fucking communists, I knew the free world needed their music , so I killed everybody, twice… I set them free from the hands of evil communists, and now they make Dark Belgian Disco…”
What is your philosophy? Motto?
Dark Belgian Disco!
Do you have names for your instruments? If so what are they?
Our modular synthesizer is called Elvis, he’s part of the band.
What’s the stupidest thing you have ever heard someone say?
Nowadays the stupidest things are not heard but read, thanks to social networks!
Peace or freedom? (You can’t have both.)Why?
Freedom but we need to fight for it, so no fucking peace.
What legendary musicians would you like to play badminton with?
Stevie Wonder… this way we’re sure to win..
What was the last song you listened to before this interview?
Melanie De Biasio – Your Freedom is the End Of Me
Stella or Guinness? Why?
Between 1995 and 2000 sugar has been added in Belgian pils like Stella, Orval is the best beer in the world, but don’t spread the word because the production is limited and the Asian market is already keen on it.
