New Zealand dubstep duo Mt Eden played a spectacular show Friday, May 10, 2013 at Casselman’s in Denver, Colorado. They headlined the night that was full of fire dancers and laser dancers, go-go dancers, aerial performers, painters, free beer, free dabs outside, and lots of electronic dance music.
The night started slow with people as opener’s sAuce, and Govinda performed their sets. But as the night carried on, more and more people began to show up to Casselman’s. By the time Dysphemic & Miss Eliza went on stage, the venue was pretty packed. All DJ’s had a wonderful set, and I could not wait to see what Mt Eden had in store.
As they took stage, I realized how VERY packed the venue was. I had a hard time walking from one end to the next. I did manage to score a spot near the stage, just under where the aerial performers were about to flip and dip. Mt Eden did an awesome job at mixing beats and making the crowd dance.
In the midst of people, fire-dancers, and free beer, the smell of marijuana pervaded the air, as Colorado’s Amendment 64 made marijuana legal for people 21 and older. With this, came free joints and free dab hits out front of the venue. This in itself was a monumental aspect of the night. What a better way for Mt Eden to celebrate their uprising in the electronic dance world, especially in Colorado, then to be able to play a set with free marijuana around?
Mt Eden’s single, ‘Sierra Leone’, has had over 14,000,000 views after putting up on YouTube in 2009. They have over 100 million views on their channel, more than 320 thousand Facebook fans and top more than 100 thousand YouTube subscribers. June 18th is the release of their EP, Walking on Air, on the newly signed Ultra label. If you missed the show, be sure not to miss out on getting your hands on a copy of Walking on Air when it is released.
