On March 29th, Regina Spektor played at Denver’s Fillmore Auditorium. It was a pleasure to have the opportunity to photograph a musician so grateful for her audience that she thanked us after every song.
Throughout her set, she engaged with her audience’s banter and cheers. As she sat down at her Steinway wearing a simple black dress with black tights and red oxfords, an audience member yelled, “Dorothy, click your heels three times!” and she cheerfully obliged. Later, when someone yelled, “You’re fucking beautiful!” as she took a sip of water, she giggled and responded, “You’re going to make me snort my water!”
Halfway through the set, before playing “Ballad of a Politician,” she told the audience, “I’m a refugee. I come from the Iron Curtain. I don’t believe in this shit…I believe in fucking fun!” And you could tell from her broad smiles and her sincere appreciation of her audience’s applause that she was having just as much fun performing as we were watching her perform.
Regina was accompanied by Brad Whiteley on keyboards, Yoed Nir on cello, and Mathias Kunzli on drums.
