(Rules of The Gauntlet: The artist (in this case, Electro Darkwave band band spankthenun) is sent a butt ton of questions ranging from standard to stupid from which they must choose at least 12 to answer and return them to us with a minimum of tear stains).
Tell me why your music rules. Or why it sucks.
A. Most music I believe is lack luster and not very good. I feel like most musicians are putting out crap because they aren’t inspired and they in a rut… forever. We will only put out great music. It wont be pop or radio friendly but fuck that shit!
Which Muppet would you marry, which one would you wanna knife fight in a swamp and which one should be our global emperor? Why?
A. We already have a muppet for president, I do not feel like this is a hypothetical question. Am I being bugged or listened to right now?
Tell me about your new album. The writing, vibe,production/producers, etc.
A. The vibe is club heavy beats, with some depth thrown in to make it last forever. We wanted to come out with some sure fire hits for the clubs and the DJ setlists, so we teamed up with some of the best in the business. We are working with everyone from Leather Strip, iVardensphere, Assemblage 23 to Angelspit and several more that you will hear about soon.
What are you working on right now?
A. Right now is the second single from the full length album coming out in November. There will be three singles with a total of 12 tracks and then 12 new tracks on the album… so you are gonna get 24 damn tracks to love forever.
Why do you make your style of music? Why not polka? or Japanese symphonic folk metal ? or..?
A. I love programming and seeing what I can do with loops, samples and blips and bleeps. It is a very different creative process than guitar or piano or sitting down with a three or four piece band. Right now it is electronic, computer based and making it sound much bigger than it is. It blows my mind the tools we have access today to make music.
Show us your best interpretive dance about your favorite TV show.
A. Ummm… what?
Which voice in your head is the craziest?
A. The calm one.
What’s the history of your band as told by your favorite fictional character?
A. Everywhere I go, these guys keep showing up. It’s not like I am into them, in fact I think they suck, but they are always hanging around the bar. What the fuck man?! I heard that every one that has played in the band except for the two brothers have died. Didn’t they play a sold out show for their first gig and the same night the guitar player and drummer quit. Damn.
How often do you work on your music?
A. Everyday. Some days it 12 hours straight and others its 15 minutes, but it is always something. Everyday I take notes on my phone for ideas we will use later. So it is all the time.
What is your philosophy?Motto?
A. I make the music I like and you like the music I make.
What’s the stupidest thing you have ever heard someone say?
A. Is this a gay bar at one of our shows… it was a place called Hell’s Gate and it was a biker bar, we thought it was a goth club.
Who are your influences?
A. All people you have heard of and everyone lists.
Have you named your bodily parts and what are they?
A. My spleen rejected this question.
Peace or freedom? (You can’t have both.) Why?
A. Right now I feel like we have Free Dumb running the country to get his own piece of it. I almost called the new album Amurdica… but nope someone else can use it. Just let me remix or sing a song on it. Sounds like a good name for a Ministry album… I better call Uncle Al and tell him about it.
Which band member are you positive is an extraterrestrial and what does their planet look like? Details!
A. Uranus and I don’t want to get into the details.
How long could you live without money?
A. About 5 minutes before my wife found out we didn’t have money.
What legendary musicians would you like to play badminton with?
A. All of them, I suck as a musician, so it would be singing or creating some blips and bleeps in the back ground. I did get to play acoustic guitar with David J, that was amazing.
Do you have any projects about to launch? What’s the scoop on that?
A. We have a series of singles leading up the full length release in a few months. We are working with some amazing talent on this release because we want it to crush and shake everyone’s world. There are so many club hits on this release it is crazy. I was advised several times to spread them out over several full length releases. Fuck that… full throttle.
What was the last song you listened to before this interview?
A. I was listening to the most recent Master of my song from the current single Siderbaby the Tetuso’s Gltichy AF mix to make sure it was ready to upload to the world.
What’s the most embarrassing band you listen to?
A. Billy Eilish I guess… when I first heard her on a small Australian radio show last year part of me was hoping no one would discover her. But more embarrassing is probably Yaegi, I don’t even know what kind of music she makes but I love it.
Any tours planned?
A. I hear the updated Star Tours at Disney Land is worth the wait.
Why should people experience your music?
A. Something you have never heard before and most people wont get it, but those that do it speaks to their souls. Its kinda crazy like that. Sometimes we will play a song live and we don’t like it, but the fans do and keep asking for it. We are just a tool for the devils music. We don’t understand it.
If you were facing unbeatable and fatal odds what song would you want to check out to? Why?
A. I AM A BEAST… I still need to write that one.
Stella or Guinness? Why?
A. Something local and crafty… I am big timing you now.
What musicians should quit forever and never be seen or heard from again?
A. Well, most of them.
What would you like to say to your fans?
A. Come get some, cause we are bring it this year. Big time.
Where do your song names come from?
A. This release it is a combination of serial killer anthems and scifi themes. Slow Suicide is very uplifting.
Top five favorite albums?
A. Aqualung, Nothings Shocking, Downward Spiral, Scary Monsters, Kill Uncle.
