Steve Aoki: Show of the Year Contender

Steve Aoki Blasts the Ogden

(By Queen B) American electro house musician, Grammy nominated producer and founder of Dim Mak Records, Steve Aoki hit the Ogden Theater on November 12, 2013. Direct support included Borgore and Waka Flocka Flame, which all together make up the main acts of the Aokify America Tour.

Aoki wanted to bring the freshest talent in electronic and hip-hop music to the forefront with the Aokify American Tour. I feel that he pulled together the best, most diverse dance lineup that not only showcased each acts talent, but also pulled together fans of different genres.

Aoki is widely known for his acrobatic crowd surfing stunts, throwing cake at fans, spraying champagne bottles, riding rafts on the dance floor, and an all-around bad-ass electronic dance show. He brought it all to the Ogden, including cake, lights and lasers and tons of confetti. Aoki definitely has stage presence, to say the least. It’s different, yet nice; to see a dj come out from behind his stage deck and interact with the fans.

Borgore brought his in-your-face drum and bass with bikini-clad dancers, one on each side of his dj deck, pumping up and down and around their poles to the fast, dirty beats that Borgore is known for. Waka Flocka Flame brought his hip-hop bravado and even made a guest appearance towards the end of Borgore’s set.

The Aokify America Tour definitely brought good times. The crowd was not your usual young crowd that you find at Global Dance or Triad Dragons productions. They were a bit older, and more laid back. The vibe of the night was good, and each dj brought their sound and made the tour a success.
